Open Salary slipKeep the salary, hide the identifiers
Most people asking for a salary slip want to see two things: that you work where you say, and how much you earn. A typical slip also carries your PAN, UAN, PF number, ESI number, bank account and employee ID. Those rarely help the recipient and are worth hiding.
| Who asks | Usually wants to see | Usually safe to hide |
|---|---|---|
| Landlord or broker | Employer, net pay, month | PAN, UAN, PF, ESI, bank account, deductions detail |
| New employer or recruiter | Gross pay and components | PAN, UAN, PF, bank account |
| Bank or lender | Often most of the slip | Ask first: they may need PAN or account details |
These are general patterns. Lenders in particular may have specific requirements, so check with them before you hide anything.
How to redact a salary slip
- Open Blur salary slip and drop in the PDF or a photo. Add several months at once if you've been asked for three or six slips: up to 20 files can go in together.
- PAN, UAN, PF number, ESI number and bank account number are ticked by default.
- Tick Employee ID or Date of birth if they're shown and not needed. Leave Salary amounts off unless you want the figures hidden.
- Export as one combined PDF or a ZIP of images.
Check each month separately. Payslip layouts can change between months or after a payroll system change, and a field found on one may sit somewhere new on another.
Things people forget
- The PDF password: some payroll systems protect slips with a password. The exported file won't carry it, so send it over a channel you trust.
- Signatures and stamps: these aren't detected automatically. Draw a box if you'd rather not share them.
- The file name: names like your full name plus employee ID travel with the file. Rename it before sending.
- Old copies: ask the recipient to delete the slips once they've decided.

Questions
Should I hide my salary from a landlord?
Often the salary is the point, since it shows you can pay the rent. If you'd rather not show it, ask whether an employment letter would do instead.
What is a UAN and why hide it?
Your Universal Account Number for the Employees' Provident Fund. It's linked to your PF account, so there's rarely a reason to share it with a landlord or recruiter.
