Open Aadhaar cardBefore you send anything
- Check who's asking. Make sure the request really comes from the company, through its official app, website or email address.
- Ask what they need. Often it's one document, not three, and not every field on it.
- Prefer official channels. Upload through the company's own app or portal rather than chat apps or personal email.
Hide what they don't need
Most checks only need your name, photo and one identifier. Cover the rest:
| Document | Usually safe to hide |
|---|---|
| Aadhaar | First 8 digits, VID, QR code |
| PAN card | Date of birth, father's name, QR code |
| Passport | MRZ, file number, address page |
| Bank statement | Transactions and balances, customer ID |
Mark the copy with its purpose
Writing the purpose and date on a copy, for example "For XYZ Bank account opening, 05/11/2026", makes it harder to reuse elsewhere. Write it on the paper before scanning, so it can't be cropped out easily, or turn on Add a watermark when you export from Blur Document: the text is repeated across the whole page.
Strip hidden data
Phone photos carry location and device details (EXIF), and PDFs carry author names and editing history. Exporting from Blur Document creates a fresh file without them.
Questions
Is it safe to send ID documents on WhatsApp?
Prefer the organisation's official app or portal. If you must use chat, send a masked copy and delete it afterwards.
