Blur Document

About Blur Document

A free tool for hiding personal details in documents before you share them, built so your files never leave your device.

Why it exists

People share ID cards, bank statements and screenshots every day: for KYC, rent, jobs and support tickets. Most online tools that blur or redact a document upload it to a server first, which is the opposite of what you want for a passport or an Aadhaar card. Blur Document does all the work in your browser tab instead.

How it works

  • Reading the document: PDFs are read from their text layer; photos and scans are read with on-device text recognition (OCR).
  • Finding what to hide: pattern checks find emails, phone, card, account and ID numbers, and keys. Optional on-device AI finds names, places and companies, and a face detector finds photos of people.
  • Document templates: for documents like Aadhaar, PAN and cheques, it knows which fields matter, so you can hide them in one click.
  • Exporting: the result is rebuilt from pixels, so nothing under a box survives, and it is read again before download to catch anything still legible.

What it can't do

Automatic detection is never perfect, especially on blurry photos or handwriting, and signatures are only found next to a printed label. Always look over the result before you share it, and draw a box over anything it missed.

Who makes it

Blur Document is made by Hashtag Consultancy. There are no accounts, no ads and no paid tier. Questions, bugs or a document it should support: write to hello@blurdocument.com.
