How to blur a Telegram screenshot

  1. Paste the Telegram screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on Mac) or drop it above.
  2. Phone numbers, emails and links are highlighted. Turn on the AI option to find people's names as well.
  3. Use Find and redact with @ to cover every username at once, then drag boxes over profile photos, the chat or group name and any forwarded-from line.
  4. Check the preview and download the image as PNG or JPG.

What a Telegram screenshot can give away

Telegram lets people hide their phone number, but whether a number shows up depends on each person's privacy settings and whether they are in your contacts. So a screenshot can reveal far more about someone else than they chose to share.

  • The chat, group or channel name and photo at the top
  • Usernames starting with @, and display names of group members
  • Phone numbers on a profile, or typed into a message
  • Forwarded-from names, which point to the original sender or channel
  • Invite links to private groups and channels
  • Shared contacts, locations, files and photos inside the chat

Where people share them, and what's fine to keep

Telegram screenshots usually end up as evidence of a scam or harassment, in a report to a platform or the police, in a post warning others, or in a bug report for a bot. In most of these cases the messages themselves are the point. Keep them readable and hide who sent them.

Timestamps, the message text and the general layout are usually fine to keep. Cover the names, usernames, numbers and invite links of anyone who didn't agree to be shown. If you're reporting a scammer, ask the place you're reporting to what they need: some want the scammer's username left visible.

Blur or solid boxes?

Blur suits whole messages and profile photos. For phone numbers, usernames and invite links, switch to Solid: short text can sometimes be guessed back from a light blur, and the editor warns you when blur covers text.

Private by design

The screenshot is opened, read and exported inside your browser tab. It is never uploaded, so nobody (including us) sees your chats or emails.

Questions

Can I hide every @username in one go?

Yes. Type a regular expression such as @\w+ into Find and redact and every username on the screenshot is covered. Display names without an @ need the AI option or a box.

Does it hide the Telegram profile photos?

Profile photos that show a face are usually detected automatically. Photos without a face, such as logos or initials, need a box drawn over them.

Does it work on Telegram Desktop and Telegram Web screenshots?

Yes. Any screenshot works, from phone, desktop or browser, because the tool reads the text in the image rather than the app itself.
