How to blur a Teams screenshot
- Paste the Teams screenshot with Ctrl+V or drop it above.
- Emails, phone numbers and links are highlighted, including meeting links and dial-in numbers. Turn on AI to also find people's names and your organisation.
- Use Find and redact for your organisation's name or email domain, then drag boxes over profile pictures, file names and the chat list.
- Download as PNG or JPG. Faces in screenshots of video calls are found too.
What a Teams screenshot can give away
Teams is a work tool, so its screenshots tend to carry work details: who you work with, what your organisation is called and how to get into its meetings.
- Your organisation's name and the names of teams and channels
- Colleagues' full names, profile pictures and presence status
- Work email addresses, which also reveal the company domain
- Meeting join links, dial-in phone numbers and conference IDs
- Names of shared files, which can reveal clients, deals or projects
- Faces of everyone on a video call
Meeting links and dial-in numbers: use solid boxes
A visible meeting link or dial-in number with its ID can let someone join a meeting they weren't invited to, especially a recurring one. Cover them with the Solid style, not blur. Numbers are short and structured, and a light blur can sometimes be read back.
Blur is fine for names, avatars and whole messages, and the editor warns you whenever blur sits over text.
When people share Teams screenshots
Common reasons: an IT support ticket, a training guide or slide deck, a post about remote work, a screenshot of a team photo from a video call, or evidence for HR. Keep the part that makes your point, and hide the people and links that don't need to be there. If the screenshot is for your own employer's IT or HR team, check what they actually need before removing it.
Private by design
The screenshot is opened, read and exported inside your browser tab. It is never uploaded, so nobody (including us) sees your chats or emails.
Questions
Can I blur everyone on a Teams video call except me?
Yes. Faces are detected automatically, and each one is a suggestion you can accept or reject. Reject your own face, accept the rest, and also cover the name labels.
Will it find every email address with our company domain?
Email addresses are found automatically. To also catch the domain in links and text, type it into Find and redact.
Does it work with screenshots from the Teams desktop app?
Yes. Any screenshot works, from the desktop app, the browser or a phone. The tool reads the text in the image.
