How to hide details in a Gmail screenshot

  1. Paste the Gmail screenshot with Ctrl+V or drop it above.
  2. Every email address is highlighted, along with phone numbers, links and card or account numbers. Accept them to cover them with solid boxes.
  3. Use Find and redact for order or tracking numbers and names, then drag boxes over your account picture, the subject line or anything else.
  4. Download as PNG or JPG. For several emails, add them all and export one PDF.

What a Gmail screenshot can give away

An email screenshot carries more contact details than most chat screenshots, and not only yours. Expanding the recipient details under the sender's name, for example, shows the full address of everyone the email went to.

  • Sender and recipient email addresses, plus everyone on CC
  • Your own address and account picture at the top of the window
  • Subject lines and the snippets of other emails in the inbox list
  • Signatures with direct phone numbers, job titles and office addresses
  • Order, booking, tracking and ticket numbers
  • Quoted earlier replies further down the thread

Why solid boxes for email

This page starts with the Solid style. Email addresses, phone numbers and order numbers are short, structured text, and a light blur can sometimes be read back. Solid boxes leave nothing to recover. Switch to Blur for long passages or the account picture if you prefer the look.

Where Gmail screenshots get shared

People share them to report phishing or scam emails, as proof of an order or a promise in a dispute with a seller, in complaints on social media, in job-search posts about an offer or a rejection, and in support tickets. Keep what proves your point, such as the wording, the date and the sender's company. Hide your own address, other recipients and any reference number that could be used to look up or change your account.

Reporting a scam? The scammer's address is often the useful part. Leave it visible and cover only your own details.

Private by design

The screenshot is opened, read and exported inside your browser tab. It is never uploaded, so nobody (including us) sees your chats or emails.

Questions

Does it find every email address in the screenshot?

Email addresses are found automatically, in headers, signatures and the message body. Names shown instead of addresses need the AI option or Find and redact.

Can I hide an order number that appears several times?

Yes. Type it, or a pattern for it, into Find and redact and every match is covered.

Does it work with Outlook, Yahoo Mail or Apple Mail screenshots?

Yes. The tool reads the text in the image, so any email screenshot works the same way.
